For any questions related to the 2018 World Congress of the World Association of Cultural Psychiatry (WACP), please review the following frequently asked questions (FAQ) before contacting us.

Overview

When is the World Congress?

The 5th WACP World Congress will convene on October 11-13, 2018.

Where will the World Congress be held?

The World Congress will be in New York City, NY at Columbia University.

Who may attend?

The World Congress is open to anyone interested in cultural psychiatry and/or culture and mental health, including practitioners, researchers, individuals involved in policy-making, and consumer and family advocates. However, registration is necessary to access all conference activities, including research panels, presentations, and poster sessions.

How do I register for the World Congress?

What are the registration fees?

For a complete list of registration fees, please visit our registration page. Members of WACP receive a discounted registration fee. If you are not currently a WACP member, you may become a member before registering for the World Congress in order to benefit from the discounted registration fee. To become a member of WACP, please visit the WACP website.

What is included in the registration costs?

Registration costs include attendance to the congress, lunches, coffee/tea, and the opening reception. Registration fees do not include Continuing Medical Education credits or the gala banquet.

I’d like to attend the conference but missed the deadlines. Can I register in person on-site on the day of the event?

Yes, please see our registration page for details about the cost of on-site registration.

I am unable to attend all three conference days. Is it possible to get a reduced registration rate?

Single-day attendance fees are available for those who wish to attend only one day of the congress. To learn about single-day registration fees, please visit the registration page.

How will I receive confirmation of my registration?

You will receive an email from Eventzilla that confirms your registration for the event. If you pay through PayPal or a credit card, you will receive a second that confirms your payment.

Will I need to bring anything with me the day of the conference?

You should bring a form of identification and the registration confirmation.

Is payment for registration tax-deductible?

This will depend on the country where you are registered for tax purposes. Please check with your tax advisor.

Venue

Where will the conference be held?

The conference will be held in the historic Morningside Campus of Columbia University in New York City.

How do I get to the conference location?

The Morningside Campus is easily accessible by public transportation. Please visit our venue page for information.

Is parking available?

Parking is available at your own cost near Columbia University at several nearby private lots. However, we encourage attendees to take public transportation as much as possible.

Is smoking allowed?

Columbia University allows smoking only in designated areas. Smoking is not allowed in the interior of the buildings where the congress will be held, but there are smoking areas near several of the venue locations.

ACCREDITATION, CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION (CME) AND CONTINUING EDUCATION (CE)

Will you be offering continuing medical education (CME) or continuing education (CE) credits for attending this event?

This information will be available closer to the date of the conference.

ACCESSIBILITY & SPECIAL NEEDS

I use a wheelchair. Will the venues be wheelchair accessible?

Yes.

I travel with a service dog. Will I be permitted to bring my service dog to the conference venues?

Yes.

Are children allowed at the conference?

Registered attendees may bring a maximum of two accompanying persons above the age of 15. Children 14 and younger may attend the conference free of charge. Please note we will not provide childcare on site.

INTERNATIONAL AND TRAVELING ISSUES

I would like to attend the conference, but I am an international scholar. What are the procedures for obtaining a visa to travel to the U.S. in order to attend?

WACP can provide you a visa request letter. Please visit our registration page to request a letter. Please note it is the international registrant’s responsibility to apply for and obtain a visa for travel to the U.S. in order to attend the conference. Please contact your institution or university for assistance with this process. You may also refer to the U.S. State Department’s website for additional information.

I registered for the conference, but was unable to attend due to traveling issues. Is there a refund policy?

Please note cancellations within 30 days of the congress cannot be reimbursed. Cancellations between 120 days and 31 days of the congress will receive 50% reimbursement. Cancellations prior to 120 days will receive 75% reimbursement. All funds will be returned by the method in which they were paid (e.g., credit card to credit card).

ON-SITE CONFERENCE ACTIVITIES

Am I allowed to bring a tape recorder, video camcorder, or other recording device to record any conference activities (e.g., keynote presentations, panels, individual research presentations)?

Regretfully, recording devices are not allowed.

Will conference attendees be permitted to bring food and drink into the conference venues?

Only food provided onsite will be allowed, according to venue policy.

AFTER THE CONFERENCE

I really enjoyed the presentations of some of your speakers. How may I obtain copies of some of their articles?

Articles from presentations will not be available at the conference. We encourage conference attendees to contact speakers directly while at the conference.

Will WACP publish anything based on presentations from the conference?

This has not been decided at present.
